Matt Gaetz – Biography

On May 7, 1982, Matthew Louis Gaetz II was born. He is an American lawyer and politician. Matt Gaetz age is 39 years. He has represented Florida’s 1st congressional district in the United States Congress since 2017. He became one of President Donald Trump’s most powerful legislative allies as a Republican.

Matt Gaetz Biography

Gaetz grew up in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He is the son of notable Florida politician Don Gaetz. Before running for state representative he temporarily worked in private practice after graduating from William & Mary Law School before running for state representative.

From 2010 until 2016, he was a member of the Florida House of Representatives. Where he gained national recognition for defending Florida’s controversial “stand-your-ground law” in the aftermath of Trayvon Martin’s killing in 2012.

He was first elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2016. He was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.

The Department of Justice revealed in March 2021 that it was looking into Gaetz’s alleged sexual contact with a 17-year-old girl. He had broken any federal sex trafficking statutes. Gaetz disputes the charges. The House Ethics Committee announced an inquiry in April 2021.

Joel Greenberg, a convicted sex trafficker. He is a former Seminole County tax collector, was alleged to have delivered a slew of evidence against Gaetz in August 2021.

Matthew Louis Gaetz II was born in Hollywood, Florida. His parents are Victoria and Don Gaetz, a famous local politician.  On May 19, 1853,   Anna Margarethe and Philip Goetz, Gaetz’s third great-grandparents, arrived in the United States.  Chain migration from Beilstein, Prussia.

Gaetz’s father served in the Florida State Senate from 2006 to 2016, representing sections of Northwest Florida and serving as Senate President from 2012 to 2014. Stanley Jerome (Jerry) Gaetz, Gaetz’s grandpa, was the mayor of Rugby, North Dakota.

He ran for lieutenant governor of North Dakota at the North Dakota Republican Party state convention in 1964. when he died of a heart attack. Gaetz is the grandson of Phillip Goetz. He arrived in Minnesota from Germany in 1838 and was called after his great-grandfather Matthias Louis Gaetz. 

Gaetz worked for the law firm Keefe, Anchors & Gordon (now AnchorsGordon) in Fort Walton Beach after graduating from William & Mary Law School.

Gaetz led a failed campaign in the Florida House of Representatives to allow Floridians with concealed weapons permits to carry their weapons openly in public. He said that the open carry of weapons was a privilege “given not by government but by God” while advocating for the bill.

Gaetz is a supporter of Florida’s stand-your-ground statute and has voted in favor of legislation to enhance it in the face of legal challenges. He also believes in the universality of concealed carry.

Gaetz slammed Big Tech corporations for attempting to “suppress us, discourage us” just before his speech on the Second Amendment, stating, “Silicon Valley can’t cancel this movement, this protest, or this congressman.”

Gaetz was accused of instigating violence against Silicon Valley employees as a result of this, which he disputed.

Gaetz was the only member of Congress to vote against the Combating Human Trafficking in Commercial Vehicles Act on December 19, 2017. A  bill that would increase government resources to combat human trafficking.

Gaetz voted against the Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act on February 27, 2018, which had been coupled with the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act at the time. It was approved by a vote of 388–25.

Gaetz tweeted on June 23, 2021, that the FBI should be defunded because he is being investigated for alleged sex trafficking and having sex with a juvenile. he added, “Democrats should start with the FBI if they want to defund the cops,”.

Gaetz has a book coming out in 2020 and a podcast coming out in 2021, both titled Firebrand. In both, he blasts former House Speaker Paul Ryan for joining Fox News’ parent company’s board of directors and blames him for the cancellation of Lou Dobbs Tonight.

“I knew coming in how many people had been brought down by sexual missteps in this town,” he writes in his book about dating in Washington, “so I set some parameters to help me err on the safe(r) side… [including] no dating your staff members, etc.”

If he runs, Gaetz will be up for reelection in November of next year. According to little polling data, Gaetz’s popularity is solid in his deep-red Florida district.

But, depending on how the inquiry develops over the next year—the Justice Department declined to comment on the probe’s status—Luckey could be the last man standing.
